William C. Harmon, Class of 1946

William C. Harmon, 80, of Quincy passed away Monday, June 1, 2009, at the Community Health Center of Branch County, Coldwater. He was born Aug. 29, 1928, in Quincy to Ivan O. and Juanita (Turrell) Harmon and graduated from Waldron High School in 1946. William was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a commercial truck driver for many years and retired from Simpson Industries in 1989 after 22 years of service. William was a member of the Union Church of Quincy, 82nd Airborne Division Club of Lansing, and the Quincy American Legion Post 157. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling and all sports.

 

On Jan. 14, 1950, he married Joan Koeppe and she survives. Also surviving are daughter, Denise (Bill) Kurtz of Coldwater; son, David R. Harmon of Quincy; sister, Ruth Shaull of Montpelier, Ohio; brothers, Ronnie Harmon of Waldron, Ivan Harmon Jr. of San Bernardino, Calif.; three grandchildren, David A. Harmon, Nate Kurtz, Courtney Kurtz; four great-grandchildren, Brianna Harmon, Nicholas Harmon, Haileigh Lavergne and Bricen Lavergne.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the George White Funeral Home, Quincy, with Pastor Scott Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Quincy. Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Memorials are suggested to the Union Church of Quincy, Quincy American Legion Post 157, or the Humane Society of Branch County, 969 Wildwood Road, Quincy.
