Patricia Jane Boyd, Class of 1941
Patricia Jane (Boyd) Peebles of San Rafael, Calif., passed away June 1, 2009, at the age of 85.
She was born May 25, 1924, in Waldron, Mich., the sixth child of nine, to Frederick M. and Sara
(Black) Boyd. She married John H. Peebles of Hudson on Feb. 10, 1944, and moved with him to
southern California in 1945.
Pat attended Western Michigan University and graduated with a history degree from California State
University in Los Angeles after her children were grown. Pat played catcher for the Steel Products
softball team after high school. She was involved with the PTA, Girl Scouts, the March of Dimes,
and Little League while her son and daughter were growing up. She was also very involved with
civic affairs and ran for the Temple City School Board. Pat was a voracious reader and worked
in the public library and the travel business. She opened her own travel agency in 1977. Pat
loved to travel and did so extensively to better advise her clients. She always went out of her
way to make their trips the best they could be. In 2007, Pat and John moved to northern
California to be near their daughter and her family.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Pat is survived by her husband, John Peebles, son Frederick (Vivian) Peebles of Temple City,
Calif.; daughter Mary (James) Adams of San Rafael, Calif.; grandchildren Whitney Peebles, Julie
Adams Jacobson, James Adams, and great-grandson Wes Peebles. She is also survived by her
sisters, Mildred Cotter of Oxford, Ohio, Blake Shilling of West Unity, Ohio, and Betsy Jones
of Hillsdale, Mich., as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia Jane (Boyd) Peebles will be celebrated Monday, June 8,
2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale, Mich., with Father Ioane
Sigarara officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Jefferson Township. The
family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday 3-5 p.m. at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home
in Hillsdale.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local library or to the
American Lung Association.
